Ray Torres, a registered tax preparer and seasoned accountant, opened Tower Accounting on Blue Mountain Drive in 2000 with a straightforward idea: small business owners deserve an accountant who knows their name, answers the phone, and explains the numbers in a way that helps them run the business. Twenty-five years later the office is in the same place and the idea has not changed.

We work with contractors, restaurants, auto shops, salons, landscapers, truckers, real estate agents and consultants across San Jose and Santa Clara County, and with the families behind those businesses. Some clients have been with us since the first year. Many came in with a single problem, a QuickBooks file that would not balance or a letter from the IRS, and stayed for the monthly work.

Our mission

Our mission is to help the small business owner know the financial strength of their company. When you can read your own profit and loss statement and balance sheet, you can see which work makes money, which months run tight, and what you will owe in April. Those are the decisions that strengthen a business, and they only happen when the records are right and someone takes the time to walk you through them.

How we work

• Long-term relationships. We would rather keep a client for fifteen years than bill a big first year.
• Records you can rely on. Reconciled books, documented sales tax, receipts that match. The way an auditor would want to see them, because sometimes an auditor does.
• Plain language. You will not get a report you cannot read or a bill you did not expect.
• Accessible. Walk-ins Monday to Friday, Saturdays by appointment, and email or upload for everything that does not need a visit.

What we do

Monthly and catch-up bookkeeping, business and personal tax preparation, help with IRS letters, sales tax and workers' comp audits, QuickBooks setup and training, and new business setup. We also help with financial projections and cash flow forecasts for owners talking to a bank, and with the planning that comes with selling or passing on a business.
